The XXXVII Annual Conference of the Caribbean Group of Banking Supervisors

The XXXVII Annual Conference of the Caribbean Group of Banking Supervisors hosted by the Central Bank of Aruba From June 13-14, 2019, the Central Bank of Aruba (CBA) hosted, in close cooperation with the Caribbean Group of Banking Supervisors (CGBS), the “XXXVII Annual Conference”, of the CGBS. The conference had as theme “The modern supervisor: retooling supervisory approaches in a dynamic financial environment” and took place at the Grand Ballroom of Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino. The opening of this conference was conducted by Mrs. Xiomara Ruiz-Maduro, Aruba’s Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and Culture. There were more than 50 participants, consisting of representatives from the various central banks and supervisory authorities in the Caribbean Region, Central and South America as well as the “Association of Supervisors of Banks of the Americas” (ASBA), “Center for Latin American Monetary Studies” (CEMLA), the “Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System” (FED) and “the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions” (OSFI). The following topics, among others, were covered during the presentations: cyber security, regulating outsourcing and third party arrangements, measuring supervisory effectiveness, recovery planning and crisis resolution, strengthening AML/CFT supervision structures, payment systems, and FinTech.
